It was great speaking with Tina Torres-Wilson, Starr Codd, and Robert Wall on Uncensored Entrepreneurs about why more of us need to think entrepreneurially about our careers – even if you’re not an entrepreneur.
Indeed, you don’t have to be a business owner or start a company to apply the value of an entrepreneurial mindset. Whether you work for an organization or on your own, it helps to think less like an employee waiting for direction from a manager, and more like a consultant proactively delivering their value to a client.
That shift starts with getting specific about the value you bring. When you try to present a list of skils as a generalist, people may have a hard time seeing where you fit. A clear specialty makes it easier for others to understand what you do, talk about your work, and connect you with the right opportunities.
We also talked about something I learnged from my own career transitions: confidence often comes after you take the step, not before. You don’t need to feel completely ready before you explore an idea, start a conversation, or test a new direction.
If you’re rethinking your career, looking at consulting, or wondering what might come next, I hope you’ll listen to our conversation. We covered a lot of useful ground.
